In Indonesia, there are lots of tea gardens with the distinctive taste of each region. One of them is the Kayu Aro Tea Plantation. The Kayu Aro tea garden is located at the foot of Mount Kerinci, precisely in the Kayu Aro sub-district, Kerinci, Jambi Province. This tea garden has an area of about 2,500 hectares and is located at an altitude of 1,600 meters above sea level.

The Kayu Aro tea plantation is the oldest in Indonesia, which has existed since the Dutch colonial era, and is the second tallest tea garden in the world after the Darjeeling tea plantation in the Himalayas, India.

The establishment of this tea garden dates back to 1925 during the Dutch colonial period until it was taken over by the Indonesian Government in 1959. Now the management is in the hands of PT. Nusantara Plantation VI (PTPN 6).

  1. The world’s best black tea producer
    It is said that Kayu Aro black tea is the best black tea because it has a stronger aroma and taste than black tea in other regions. This tea was also said to have been the favorite tea of the Queen of the Kingdom of England and the Queen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
  2. It is the highest tea plantation in Indonesia and the second-highest in the world
    This karo tea plantation is the tallest plantation in Indonesia and the second highest in the world after the Darjeeling tea plantation in India. It has a height of 1,600 meters above sea level.
  3. Kayu Aro Tea Plantation Becomes the Largest in Indonesia
    Kayu Aro is also the largest tea garden in the country and the world. With an area of more than 2,500 hectares, it’s no wonder Kayu Aro can produce more than 5,000 tons of black tea each year. Tea from these plantations is widely exported to various countries in America, Europe, and Asia.
